After spending an hour or so reading threads, I thought it'd be rude not to register and try and contribute.
I'm originally from North Devon, first BMX was a no name Prophete. Probably the worst (wallet!) mistake my Dad ever made was letting me trade in my Grifter for £20 and buying me the Prophete. It started me off into BMX and then a one off day trip to a new BMX track, in a barn, in South Molton, Devon, with Tim March teaching us kids how to ride, made sure this was followed by years of racing and freestyle, a string of different bikes and upgrades.
Several years riding, playing, driving all over the country racing, lying to my Mum when what appeared to be new bits turned up on bikes ("we erm, swapped that with Nick/John/Rich/Mark etc.) followed with lots of friends made in the process. I was probably never happier than when I was riding.
When BMX wound down and mountain biking kicked in, mine and my Dads foresight was lacking and my two bikes and my race kit were traded for an MTB. Biggest mistake of the decade but hey, you can look back at the past but you shouldn't stare.
I need to go routing through the photos I have of my Dads and see what I can find. I will try and scan some and get them posted.
Briefly from memory, bikes owned:
Prophete - sold for
Kuwahara ET - traded for (yup straight swap)
SE Quadangle - black one first time round - sold for
JMC - candy apple red with chrome forks I think, traded for
Brian Curtis - all chrome
Robinson - kept it for about 3hrs as it was a bit bent
Another SE Quad - blue one this time
And for play:
Haro Freestyler Gen 1 - I think - chrome
Tracks ridden:
North Devon Arena, South Molton, where it all began ND Aeros and RW Racing!
Barnstaple Bandits, Severn Brethren
Bideford Bombers, up the hill somewhere, ridden with the start straight in both directions
Exeter, the original track which seemed like 8 miles long and the newer one with the 'water jump' camel top!
Plymouth, can't recall the name
Brentor, Tavistock
Tiverton, awesome little short track ideal for my crappy legs!
Padstow
Derby, greyhound stadium? for the British Champs.
If there's anyone on here from that era, please say hello.
